Walking coaching

A supportive conversation built on movement. It doesn’t take place in a closed office or in front of a screen, but outdoors, while walking.

Just as the Himalayan Sherpas show the way and support the climbers, while the steps themselves must be taken by the climber, a walking coach accompanies the client and helps carry their emotional burdens, but the inner answers are found by the client.

Physical movement (walking) and a change of surroundings are proven to help release mental blocks, offer a fresh perspective, and ease the tension of sitting face to face.

Why does it work?

Body and mind together

Moving the body sets our thoughts in motion too, and helps us get past what is holding us back.

New surroundings, new perspective

When we step out of familiar spaces, we see our most important questions differently, too.

Mindful presence

While walking, there is room for attention, mindfulness and the calming effect of nature.

At your own pace

A session usually lasts one to one and a half hours and always follows your rhythm.

Key features and methods

  • Walking coaching (walk & talk). Through focused questions and awareness of bodily sensations, it helps release blocks, gets stuck life situations moving again, and supports you in making decisions.
  • Mindful walking. Helps you step out of autopilot and turns your attention to your steps, your breathing, and the sounds, scents and sights around you.
  • Forest bathing (shinrin-yoku). A nature therapy of Japanese origin that draws on the stress-relieving, restoring effect of trees and green surroundings.

Mental and physical benefits

  • Less stress. Movement and nature calm us, ease anxiety, lift the mood and help with mental fatigue.
  • A sense of progress. As our feet carry us forward, the feeling of moving on grows stronger inside us, too.
  • The body recharges, too. As a gentle form of exercise, it is good for circulation, muscles and joints.

The first steps

There comes a time in every child’s life when they stand up and set off. After the first uncertain steps, they fall. Then they try again. And again. Then, during one of these attempts, they fall and hurt themselves, and for a while it takes the heart out of them. But then they pull themselves together and try once more.

“You can do it!”

…the inner voice cheers them on. And it’s true!! The child knows and believes they can do it… that they can stand up… that by placing their tiny feet one after the other, with enough practice, they will soon be walking.

Well, it is just the same for us adults… because this little child lives in us, too… only perhaps, after the bad experiences of the years, our belief fades a little that we can do it, that we are capable of it, that we can set off.

We know, we feel that the time has come. We ought to take the leap, because what is blocking us inside won’t let us walk on along our path. We can’t put it off any longer!

We take the first steps… and plop back down. Worse still, we really hurt ourselves.

Staying on the ground… that’s safe – we know that by now – …or trying again… but what if I hurt myself again? …I really should try again… and this is when it helps – just as it does for a small child – if someone is there with us.

Someone who encourages and supports us. Whose hand we can hold for a moment if we wobble too much, who holds us steady until we find our balance again… until we experience that yes, we are able to stand. To set off. To stop again if we need to, and then step on once more, moving… forward.

I have fallen many times, too… and many times I set off again... and again.

With a degree in economics, years spent abroad, hardships, losses and serious illnesses behind me, I began studying Sherpa coaching, fairy-tale constellation facilitation, and family and systemic constellations at nearly forty.

Because, fortunately, the child in me wouldn’t let me rest until I stood up and kept on trying. And after the toddling, today I march confidently forward, so that I can gain ever broader knowledge of the mysteries of the human soul and of how it is reflected on the physical plane, and pass this knowledge and experience on to others.

If you feel the time has come for you to set off, too, take the first steps of change – of your walk towards yourself – with me! I will accompany and support you, so that after the uncertainty of those first steps you can walk your own path with ever more confident strides.
